Teresa Nicholson
Lieu de décès : Truro Dominion
Date de décès : 15 novembre 2015
On Nov. 15, 2015 our loving mother and grandmother passed away in Truro. It was a true blessing to have her in our life. Teresa was completely dedicated to her family and to her faith. She believed that life should be fun and she made sure that it was for everyone around her. Although we are saddened by our loss, we are grateful for, and celebrate the many blessings she brought to our lives.
Teresa grew up in “Number Eleven” and loved sharing stories about life with her 12 brothers and sisters. Teresa worked as a telephone operator for the Dominion Coal Company until she married Joe Nicholson in 1960. They settled in Dominion and over the years, she was involved in the community in so many ways, particularly with the former Recreation Department of the Town of Dominion. Sports were an important part of her life. Besides being a regular at the rink as an enthusiastic hockey mom, she was also president of ladies’ bowling leagues, president of dart leagues and a coach of girls’ softball. She loved playing ball with the kids in the back yard and allowing the kitchen to be turned into an indoor hockey rink.
She was also a past member of the ladies’ auxiliary of the Dominion Fire Department and St. Eugene’s CWL. In 2002, Teresa and Joe were recognized by the Dominion Hawks Club for the many contributions they made to their community.
She is survived by her son Joe (Angele); granddaughters Sophie and Chloe; sisters Edith and Margaret as well as countless nieces, nephews, godchildren and many good friends. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Joe, parents James Joseph Edward ‘JJE’ McKinnon and Margaret (McNeil) McKinnon, brothers Frank, Colin, Jim, MJ and Amby, sisters Sally, Trudy, Anne and Mary.
Our family would like to thank the staff at The Mira, Truro for their kind care.
Arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay: where Teresa’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The funeral mass will then be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will be in St. Eugene’s Cemetery, Dominion. A reception will follow in the church hall.
