In loving memory of Doug 'Duncan' MacPherson
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Doug MacPherson on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015 in Goodyear, Arizona.
Born in Sydney, N.S. on June 5, 1948, he was the son of the late Duncan and Albert (Maddox) MacPherson.
Prior to his retirement from Aurora College in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, he was employed as a carpentry instructor for 30 years. Doug was always there to give a helping hand to everyone who sought his assistance and advice.
His humour charmed many students and his carpentry experience assisted to fulfill their career goals.
Doug loved to spend quality time with his family and friends and upon retirement found many new friends in Arizona.
He loved to spend his quiet and peaceful winters with his loving wife of 44 years, and many new friends.
For a number of years, preceding his retirement and for the years after, Doug has touched the lives of many people, young and old with the spirit of Christmas.
With great support of his wife and children, and the communities of Fort Smith, N.W.T., and Tonopah, Arizona, he constructed a Santa sleigh.
He and Carol would spend the Christmas season spreading happiness and well-being to all. Through the Mac Claus sleigh, Christmas was made of wood, wire and a great big heart.
Doug’s death was a result of an accident while working on his passion; The Mac Claus sleigh.
Doug is survived by his wife, Carol (Ranni) MacPherson; sons, Glen (Michelle) of St. Albert, Alta., Craig (Kim) of Fort Smith, N.W.T., Nick (Donna) of St. John’s, Nfld., and daughter, Maureen (Aaron) Kikoak of Fort Smith, N.W.T.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Douglas, Randall, Isabella, Tristan, Dylan, Ashton, Logan, Triton, Madison, Kieran, Taylor and Amelia. He also leaves behind his sisters, Marie (Charlie) Cash, Irish Cove, Judy (Sandy) Morrison, Grand River; brothers, Mike, Howie Centre and Albert Gibson (Maura), Fall River; Carol’s brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by all.
Cremation has taken place and at a later time, memorial services will be held in Cape Breton, Fort Smith, N.W.T. and Tonopah, Arizona.
