George Park died in his sleep on 28 November 2015, from a glioblastoma. A fighter pilot during WWII, he was a professor of anthropology at Memorial University of Newfoundland from 1969 to his retirement in 1990. George was a teacher who impacted many lives and was much loved. His research in Norway and East Africa and his vast reading provided an endless source of inspiration. He continued to devote himself to his writing until about four months before his death. His oldest son Nicholas died in 2001 and his wife Alice in 2009. He is survived by his daughter Laura and sons Geoffrey and Thomas as well as his grandchildren Nathaniel, Alicia, Thea and Sophia and his great-grandchildren Danny and David. Also step-granddaughter Sara and her children Marcus, Sarilynn, and Allison, and step-grandson Solomon and his daughter Sophia. Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday, December 5th, 2015 from 10 am - 2:30 pm. A service will follow visitation in the Carnell Memorial Chapel at 2:30 pm. Donations can be made in George's memory to a charity of one's choice.
