It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Ronald Joseph Todd, affectionately known as Grampy to many who knew him on Dec. 6, 2015.
Ron was born in Toronto, Ont. on Oct. 19, 1926, and was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lillian (Hartley) Todd.
He made his career as a Journeyman Electrician IBEW Local 1852 and was well respected by his fellow workers. He enjoyed many hours making wood crafts that he shared with all his family and friends. He was a member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club where he greatly enjoyed all of the activities, especially the dances.
Ron will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Sandy (Gary) Johnston, North Sydney, Bonnie (Roy) Serafinus, Bras d’Or; his son Bill (Emily) Todd, Lower Sackville. Grampy will be greatly missed by his seven grandchildren, Derek (Corinne) Johnston, great-grandchildren Todd and Ian, Lower Sackville, Denise (Chris) MacDonald, great-grandson Xavier, Dartmouth, Dawn (Jim) Browne and great-grandson Quinn, Sydney River, Mark (Crystal) Serafinus, and great-grandchildren Logan and Brianne, Bras d’Or, John (Jolene) Serafinus and great grandchildren Connor and Alexander, Sydney Mines, Roy (Fallon) Serafinus and great-grandson Gabriel, Sydney Mines, Kassie (Lee) Todd and great-grandchildren Ali and Riley, New Zealand. Also greatly saddened are his brother Allan Todd, New Brunswick, his sister Glad Sollory, Ontario, and by many nieces and nephews. Ron is also survived by a special friend Doris Burt.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Eldra (MacLean) Todd, Point Aconi, his brothers Bill and Dan Todd, his sister Jose Foster.
Ron moved to Fairview Seniors Apartments in North Sydney just two years ago where he made many new friends and enjoyed many evenings of music and dance and other activities in their lounge.
A special thanks to the homecare workers and the VON who helped him at home, to Dr. Beth MacCormick for her care and friendship throughout the years and to all of the nursing staff on 4West at the Northside General Hospital. Your care and thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.
By request there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held 11a.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney with Grace Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
