It is with sadness, that we the family, announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Margaret Dianne Layes, at the age of 68.
Mom passed away on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Hughie and Isabel 'Tootsie' (Wilson) MacNeil, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Bridgeport, Glace Bay.
Diane moved to Ontario at the age of 18 and began a life there with her beloved husband Sandy, until his untimely passing in 1994. After raising their children Cory and Nicole, she returned to Glace Bay in 2009.
Diane enjoyed her times spent at the casino, watching her favourite TV shows and her Sunday drives and outings with her cousin Patsy. She touched the hearts everyone she met, and had a soft spot for all.
She will be sadly missed by her loving family; daughter Nicole; son Cory (Rachelle); grandchildren, Cody and Sophie; sister Vangie (Randy) Isenor; brothers, Joey (Bonnie), Jimmy (Helen), Gerard (Karen), Cal (Colleen); and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her loving husband Alexander 'Sandy' Layes, sister in-law Wanda, nephew Sgt. James McNeil and niece Shantelle.
In honouring Dianne’s wishes there will be no visitation; cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
A funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Daniel Boudreau will be celebrated 3 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Barrie, Ont.
As an expression of sympathy for Dianne, in lieu of flowers memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
