WATKINS, Donald Keith – age 95, of Yarmouth, passed away at The Meadows Home for Special Care on December 2, 2015. Born in Yarmouth Bar, Yarmouth County, N.S., he was the son of the late Howard and Bertha (Madden) Watkins. Donald was a veteran of the Second World War where he served in the Army. He began his fishing career with his father and was later a deckhand aboard the Sweeny’s boats and also fished on his own for several years. Donald was also a seaman onboard the MV-Mohawk coastal freighter for 10 years and continued to work in the fishery until he retired. He is survived by his daughter Phyllis Smith of Burton, N.B; sons, Donald Keith Jr. Watkins of Yarmouth, N.S and Cecil Wayne Watkins of Yarmouth, N.S and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides his parents Donald was predeceased by his wife Phyllis (Nickerson), daughter Mary Ellen (Blades), brothers, Russel, Clayton, Fred and Carl; sisters, Margaret Nickerson, Blanche (Nickerson), Stella (Kenney) and grandsons, Timothy Watkins and Charlie Blades. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 7-9 pm in Sweenys Funeral chapel. A funeral service was held Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 1:00 pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Shawn Kehoe officiated. Interment took place in the Chegoggin Cemetery.
