It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Earl Archibald MacDonald, age 88, on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Dan R. and Nellie (Johnston) MacDonald.
Earl was a carpenter by trade and worked for many years alongside his father and brother Reg, with Dan R. MacDonald & Sons before branching out on his own, until his retirement. Earl’s love of the outdoors, skating and reading were only surpassed by his deep love and pride he felt for “his boys”.
Earl was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his sons, Dan R. (Alison) MacDonald and Jim (Michelle) MacDonald, both of Sydney Mines; his grandchildren, Danielle, Hollie, Michael and Harrison and by his companion Carlotta 'Tots' Cordy.
Earl was predeceased by his sisters, Grace and Vimy and a brother, Reg.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Hickey and the staff of 4 East at the Northside General Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Earl over the past number of years.
By request there will be no visitation or funeral. A graveside committal service will take place in Calvin United Church Cemetery, Upper Leitches Creek, at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
