Mrs Clara Rushton & family has received sad news of the passing of Louis Rayburn Rushton of Winnipeg Manitoba. Service will be held at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Miscouche at 10:30AM on December 19, 2015. All welcome, lunch to follow at Silver Maple Club.
LOUIS (LOUIE) RAYBURN RUSHTON August 3, 1948 - December 2, 2015 Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, Louis passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. Louis was predeceased by his father Whitney Raeburn Rushton. He is survived by his mother Mary Clara Rushton (DesRoches) of P.E.I.; his brothers, Percy Rushton (Louise) of P.E.I., Garnet Rushton (Freda) of Richmond Hill, Ontario; and sisters, Noreen Stonehouse of Hamilton, Ontario and Tillie MacLeod (Allan) of P.E.I. He will also be missed by nephews and nieces, David, Briar, Louie, Garnie, Mary, Sheila, Serl, Al, Whitney and Jason. Louis was born in Pugwash, Nova Scotia and lived there until the age of five when the family moved to Miscouche, P.E.I. After working several years on potato farms and farm related work, Louis left P.E.I. at the age of 19 and settled in Selkirk, Manitoba. He worked for a local glass manufacturer before moving to East Selkirk to take a job as a farm hand. After years of farm work, Louis moved north to Bissett, Manitoba in the 1970s. He initially worked for conservation with the fire crews and then took a job as park attendant at Caribou Lake just south of Bissett. After a few summers, Louis moved on and took a job with the Town of Bissett as their maintenance person, where he worked for 20 years maintaining the water system and town site. Louis retired in April, 1997 and returned to P.E.I. for a few years before returning to Bissett in 2005 and taking employment with the local gold mine San Gold. He worked for the mine for 10 years, retiring as a drill doctor in August, 2014. Louis had a great passion for the outdoors and all the opportunities it provided. An avid hunter, fisherman and trapper, Louis had an activity for every season. Running his trapline for 25 years was his most prized pastime. We would like to thank the Beausejour Hospital, Grace Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital and CancerCare for all the great care during his time of need. We would also like to thank the Manitoba Health Care program and the Winnipeg Palliative Care program that allowed Louis to enjoy his last few months outside a hospital setting as he wished and participate in a final hunting season. Special thank you to his primary Palliative nurse Michelle C., whose timely visits always brought a restored level of calm. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Louis's life will be held on Saturday, December 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bissett Community Centre (curling club).
