William Tracy Hopkins, 81, passed away at home in Sydney on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015.
Born in Doctor’s Cove, Shelburne County, N.S., he was the son of the late Herbert and Edith (Kenney) Hopkins.
Bill was a graduate of Mount A and Nova Scotia Tech (Dal Tech) with a degree in civil engineering.
He was a former member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church. He was employed for many years as a municipal engineer before joining the family business H.H. Hopkins Ltd. from which he retired.
Bill was vastly invested in many community organizations. He was a member of APENS, Thistle Lodge #36 Port Morien and Mariner Lodge #80 Louisbourg, Scottish and York rite Shiners Philae Temple Halifax and served on the Scottish unit of the Temple.
Bill felt all life had meaning and enjoyed many outdoor activities.
He is survived by his wife, Marion R. (MacLean) Hopkins; sister, Louise McHardy, Dartmouth; brothers, Cliff (deceased Kay), Birch Grove, Glen (Dodo), Eddy (Florence), Port Morien, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by sister, Katherine Kenney (Bill), Wayland, Mass., and brother, Brad Hopkins (Ruth), Port Morien.
Funeral and visitation will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to charity of choice.
