HUNT, Terry David - Truro. It is with deep sadness that we announce the very unexpected passing of Terry David Hunt, as a result of heart complications, on December 20, 2015. Terry was the son of the late John and Betty Hunt. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and spent his early years in the nearby community of Stoney Creek. In the late 1960s, Terry moved to Nova Scotia to attend Saint Mary's University. He quickly fell in love with this beautiful province, and soon became entrenched in the lifestyle here. During his lengthy teaching career, Terry held positions at the Nova Scotia School for Boys in Shelburne, the Colchester Regional Vocational School in Truro, Hants East Rural High School in Milford and, finally, at Hants North Rural High School in Kennetcook. He enjoyed many wonderful years of teaching in Kennetcook, and always spoke very fondly about his great students and his supportive co-workers. Although he did not grow up in Truro, it was clear to all who knew him that Terry loved his adopted community. His commitment to the town and its people took him in many directions, and eventually led to his nomination as Truro's "Volunteer of the Year" in 2010. Terry was a long standing member and past Chair of Truro's Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee, a loyal member and willing worker at First United Church, a faithful volunteer at the Marigold Cultural Centre, a board member with Colchester Regional Services Society and a member of both the Truro Curling Club and the Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club. He was also proud to be part of the wonderful team that organized the very successful "Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling, 2015 Masters" event in October of this year. In earlier years, Terry was involved with the Bible Hill Kinsmen, Truro Minor Football and the Truro Lacrosse Association. Another significant endeavour was his twelve-year commitment to the Ian MacLean Memorial Golf Tournament, an event created to honour a friend and that raised in excess of $100,000.00 for the Children's Wish Foundation. Above all else, Terry adored his family. He leaves behind his wife and very best friend, Margaret; his wonderful sons, Daniel (Hayley), Joshua and Thomas; his 2 year old grandson, Haydan, who brought him such delight, and his brothers, John (Charlotte) in Kingston, Ontario and Barry (Sherri) in Starkville, Mississippi. Extended family members who are also deeply saddened by this loss are Ken Craftchick, John and Donna Douglas, Stephen and Heather Douglas, Bill and Susan Lycan, Elizabeth Lunn and his many nieces and nephews. Terry was predeceased by his younger sister, Sandra Craftchick; her untimely death in 2014 was devastating for him. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Terry’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2015. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at First United Church, 711 Prince Street, Truro, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Reception will follow in Memorial Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Terry’s memory to Children’s Wish Foundation, World Vision Canada or First United Church are welcomed.
