It is with sadness that we, the family of Angus Philip MacDonald, announce his passing on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Gabarus Lake on March 22, 1921, he was a son of the late Philip and Christie (Munroe) MacDonald.
A veteran of the Second World War, Angus served overseas in France and Germany with the Royal Canadian Navy. Until retirement, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Parks Canada at the Fortress of Louisbourg. Angus was a member of Zion-Wesley United Church and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney and also, a former member of the Orange Lodge.
Surviving are his daughters, Ann (Ramsay) MacLeod, Marion Bridge and Donna (Brian) Mikkelsen, Dutch Brook; son, David (Lydwin) MacDonald, Balls Creek; grandchildren, Trevor (Margo) MacLeod, Shaun (Alana) MacLeod, Leah MacDonald, Amanda (Jamie) Mills, Keith (Lisa) MacDonald, Erin (Trevor) MacKinnon and Evan MacDonald (Joe Fraser); great-grandchildren, Abby, Belle, Loghan, Noah, Gavin, Jacob, Jonah and Nathan.
Angus was predeceased by his wife, Marion (Hardy) in 2002. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ann and brothers, Donald, Warren and Roddie, as well as his nephew, Warren Jr., QC.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday, Jan. 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Zion-Wesley United Church, Gabarus Lake on Sunday, 2 p.m., with Nancy Whitney-Latham, DLM officiating. Interment in Zion Cemetery.
