Hilda Rose

Hilda Nora (Nobbs) Rose, age 105, passed away on January 5, 2015, in Leader, SK. Hilda is survived by her niece-in-law, Beth Nobbs; great-nephews, David and Lindsay (Tansy) Nobbs; great-great-nephew, Chase Nobbs; nephews, Mark Day, Clinton Day (Edna), Lyle Nobbs (Lorraine); nieces, Maxine Stockburger, Marlene Bily, Frances Teixerra (Joe) and Terry Ayotte; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Philander Rose; special nephew, Laverne Nobbs; parents, William Samuel and Alice Eliza Nobbs; brothers, William, Tom, Victor and Frank Nobbs; sister Barbara Day; nephews, Brendon, Bill, Cyril, Fred and Bruce Nobbs; and nieces Barbara Day, Rosalie Nobbs and Valerie Mohninger. Hilda was born on June 16, 1910, at Ruchell, Suffolk, England. She grew up at Lowestoft, Suffolk and remembers seeing the German fleet and zeppelins during the First World War. When she was 13, she travelled to Canada with her mother, sister and youngest two brothers to join her brothers, Bill and Tom, at Lemsford, SK, right at harvest time. She lived at Portreeve and Lemsford before marrying Philander Rose in 1952 and moving to the Rose farm north of Lancer. Philander passed away in November, 1957, and Hilda lived on the farm until 1960, when she moved to Swift Current. She lived in her own home until she was 97, and then moved to Riverview Estates. In October of 2009, the Western Senior Citizens Home in Leader, SK, became her home. Hilda loved to travel and made several trips to England to visit relatives, but what she really enjoyed were the 6 cruises she took. She enjoyed crocheting (many relatives have one of her afghans), knitting, gardening and family reunions, especially if they coincided with her birthday. A memorial service in honour of Hilda Rose will be held in Lancer, SK, in June of 2016. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks for the wonderful care she received at the Western Senior Citizens Home at Leader. Donations in memory of Hilda Rose may be made to the Ladies' Auxiliary, Western Senior Citizens Home, 400 - 1st Street W., Leader, SK, S0N 1H0. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
