Barry Dewhurst Obituary March 24, 1933 - January 6, 2016
Hi, Barry Dewhurst here. Just a quick note to let you know that I’ve moved on to my next adventure. I was a pretty lucky man and married the love of my life, Juney, in 1955. We had four cool kids: Shannon, Cheryl, Lori (Allan) and Joelle (Dale and their great dogs Toots and Weezie). These four beauties gave us a bunch of grandkids: Stacey (Jesica), Codey (Anita), Spencer (Amanda), Jordan, Tony and Taylor. My daughters and grandchildren were my pride and joy. I took every chance I could to be involved in their activities whether it be coaching, cheering them on at a sporting event, or driving a truckload of band members to a parade. I taught most of them how to swim by throwing them into the pool and seeing if they could float. My family made the most of all holidays with lots of laughter, decorating and excitement. Summer vacations were spent camping and visiting relatives. Sometimes the station wagon would break down, but the family always called me a jack of all trades; they said there was nothing I couldn’t fix, build or design.
My mom, Muriel Neithercut, worked at the Y when Terry (who was my best friend & brother) and I were young. The two of us grew up in the “old Y” and had many adventures there. I volunteered at the YM/YWCA in Moose Jaw for over 60 years and was a lifetime member for over 80 years. I loved the Y; joking around with the other members and staff was my favourite pastime. Thanks to all of you who made the Y my 2nd home.
I met Juney in the early 50’s when we both worked at Simpson Sears. After working at CanaDay’s for 32 years, I operated the crematorium at Jones Funeral Home until I retired in 1999.
I hope to be remembered as a man who was generous with my time and was willing to help anyone who needed it. So friends when you think of me, picture me riding my bike, playing with the kids at the Y or cracking a joke. Please go through your life with a smile on your face and generosity in your heart.
And to my Juney, “Love ya, Babe”.
I’m not having a funeral, and I’ve already been cremated. Instead of sending flowers or food, please donate to the Canadian Blood Services in my name; just call 1-888-236-6283.
Thanks, Barry.
