Born on July 4, 1950 to Emma and Joshua Dyson in Batteau, NL. She was one of eight children. On Feb 12, 1969 she married James Short of St. Anthony, NL and together they raised three children Renee, Trevor and Wendy. On January 15, 2016, in her 65th year, Shirley passed away peacefully at the Health Science Centre surrounded by the love, respect and admiration of her husband, sister, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends, and very special friends Gaile and Harrison Mugford. Many, many thanks to the nurses and doctors at the HSC ICU department. Shirley loved the outdoors and was at peace mostly while tending to her garden of beautiful plants and flowers. Her love of decorating for every event throughout the year was infectious and will be sadly missed by those who shared it with her. The highlight of her year was their annual trip back home to Labrador with her husband and dear friends Bern and Beryl Biles for berry picking season. Her door was always open to her family and friends; she will be sadly missed. Predeceased by her father Joshua Dyson, twin brother James Dyson, brother Roy Dyson and special nephew Joshua Williams. She leaves to mourn her mother Emma; husband James (Jim); children Renee Blundon (Paul), Trevor (Joy) and Wendy; grandchildren Megan, Austin, Aaliyah and Naylah; siblings Mabel Dyson, Minnie Martin, Stella Dyson, Ethel Short (Max), Ralph Dyson and Allen Dyson (Elizabeth); in-laws Irene and Melvin Roberts, Josie Powell; nieces and nephews and an extended circle of family and friends. Funeral services will be held at St. James United Church at 2 pm on Monday, Jan 18th with cremation to follow.
