1928 - 2016
Barbara D. Smith, 87, of Lower Coverdale, NB; passed away at The Moncton Hospital, on Monday, January 18, 2016.
Born in East Baltic, PEI, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Mable Bruce.
Barbara was a longtime member of Lower Coverdale Baptist Church as well as a member of the WMS and a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved the outdoors, walking in the summer and fall, and cross country skiing during the winter months. Barbara had a green thumb and her yard was always full of the most beautiful flowers. Barbara's greatest love however, was that of her family. Daily phone calls to family members were the norm. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews all felt the extent of her love and the walls of her home are filled with treasured photos of them all. She had a great sense of humor and seemed to have a song for every word in the dictionary. Anyone who met Barbara instantly felt at ease, as she loved to talk and meet new people.
She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 64 years, George Smith; daughter, Lois Andrews (Allan) of Canoe Cove, PEI; son, Douglas Smith (Claudette), Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, NB; daughter-in-law, Lisette Smith (the late Jeffrey); 12 grandchildren: Buffy, Ginger, Joshua and Whitney, Scott and Mark, Jonathan, Daniel, Chantal, Cynthia, Claudia and Tammy; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings: Maurice Bruce (Joan) of Kingston, ON; Florence Mossey of Charlottetown, PEI; as well as nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Smith, in 1996; sisters, Edythe and Lyda; and by brothers, George and Arthur.
Resting at Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview with visitation on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Lower Coverdale Baptist Church, 1121 Route 114, Lower Coverdale, NB, on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Hammond officiating. Interment will be in Wilmot Memorial Cemetery, Lower Coverdale, NB, in the spring.
