It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving brother, uncle, great uncle and friend Laurence Edwin Fraser, 77. Laurie passed away Feb. 11, 2016 in the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Edwardsville, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Loretta (Lewis) Fraser.
Laurie was a person of very strong faith and it was rare to have a conversation with him in which his faith was not mentioned. He loved spending time with his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Laurie was an avid traveler who enjoyed many trips across Canada, United States as well as a trip to Europe. Laurie was a painter by trade and took pride in his hobby farm where he raised lambs, sheep, chickens and horses. He was also proud of his vegetable garden and making his own maple syrup. In his younger years he was also a harness racer and owned two race horses, Irish Derby and Major Wyn. He had a great deal of musical talent being able to play the fiddle, guitar and accordion, he played and sang at many family gatherings. Laurie gave generously to charities.
Survived by sisters, Evelyn Jennings, Edwardsville, Barbara Huntington, Point Edward and Marjorie (Rod) Dow, Bedford; brothers, Elmer, Edwardsville and Steve (Heather), Ben Eoin; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Predeceased by brothers, Melvin, Russell and Joe, brother-in-law, Max Jennings and sister-in-law, Anna Fraser.
Visitation for the late Mr. Laurence Fraser will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Holy Rosary Church. Interment in Church of Incarnation Cemetery, Edwardsville.
