The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on March 14, 2016, of John “Jack” Joseph Wedge of Summerside, aged 85 years and one day. Jack was born in New York City to his late parents Joseph and Irene (DesRoches) Wedge. Beloved husband of Phyllis (Gallant) and loving father of Mary (Mike) Hennessey, Stanhope, Cindy (Richard Kenny) of Charlottetown, Kenton (Sheila Whiteway) of Alexandra, Alex (Julie), Summerside, George (Shelly), Scarborough, ON., and Paul, Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by his 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Survived by his brothers and sisters Rose Wedge, Patricia (Rod) Arsenault, Sam (Yvonne) Wedge, Harvey (Sandy) Wedge and Peggy (Ted) Peters, and brothers and sisters-in-law David (Adeline) Gallant, Noelline Gallant and Velma Gallant. Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his daughter Jane Elizabeth, son John (J.J.) Wedge, sisters and brothers in-law Elaine (Ray) Amirault, Isabel (Harold) Arsenault, Della (Charlie) Cairns, Inez (George) Peters, Allan, Robert, Herbie and Harold Gallant. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside, until Thursday, March 17, then to St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Summerside, for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in the church cemetery immediately following. Memorial donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the PCH Oncology Unit or PEI Cancer Treatment Centre in Charlottetown.
