New Glasgow – Rose (Westerman) Bowes, age 91, of New Glasgow, passed away Friday, March 11, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late William and Amy (Stallard) Westerman. Rose joined the Air Force at age 17 1/2, during WWII, one of the first women to join at that time. She worked at the Naval Dockyards in Halifax until her retirement. She was a member of the Anglican Church, involved as treasurer of her church and involved in many volunteer activities. She is survived by a daughter, Catherine (Carl) Beaudry; grandchildren: Genevieve (Ryan) Mayer; Dominique Beaudry; Ashley Beaudry; Bo Beaudry and Gabrielle Beaudry; great grandsons: Joseph, William and Jack Fertitta; sisters: Mary Smeltzer; Jean Westerman. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband Donald Bowes; brothers: Edward “Ted” Westerman and William “Bill” Westerman. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A private service has already been held. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
