Dougie MacKENZIE

MacKENZIE, D. B. “Dougie”
Pictou

MacKENZIE, Douglas Burton, “Dougie”, Age 77, of Pictou, passed away peacefully April 21, 2016 in the Shiretown Nursing Home. He was born in Three Brooks on July 12, 1938. In his younger years he owned a trucking business, MacK & L, with his famous slogan “U Call, We Haul”. He worked at Clairtone, and Michelin Tire, from where he retired in 1993, after 22 years. He was also employed with his best friend, Brian Clarke Construction, where he worked both part time and full time from 1967 until age 70, when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He was a jack of all trades, always performing odd jobs for various people. He was a hard worker who was well known for his strong work ethic and quality of work. Dougie was an avid collector of many things, always thinking that someday they would be worth something. He was such a kind hearted, fun loving man who loved to laugh and tease. His face would light up with such pride every time he saw his children and grandchildren. As a Dad and husband he was definitely priceless. He enjoyed wrestling, country music, old black and white movies, but most of all working. Dougie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Hilda (Landry); his children, Dougie (Tammy), Sharran Anne (Gary) Cameron and Bobby (Lynn). He was so very proud of his four grandchildren, Ashleigh, Sarah Dawn, Colton and Justin. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Doreen (Ernie) Corbett, Wilda Landry (Andrew), Priscilla (Langille) MacKenzie, Marlene (Gerald) Shaw, Nellie Bray (Bruce), Jimmy (Cathy) Langille, Angus Langille, Delia (John) Kreffer and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his adoptive parents, Grace and Neil MacKenzie, his biological parents, Jessie and Gordon Langille; brothers, Neil “Junie” MacKenzie, Stewart and Arnold Langille; sisters, Priscilla (MacKenzie) Lann and Diane MacMillan. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Sunday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Monday from the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Donations in Dougie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, or a charity of your choice. We would to thank Dr. Randy Burrill for always going above and beyond the call of duty. A special thank you to the Shiretown Nursing Home staff for treating and loving Dougie (Dad) as if he was a part of your own family. Always remember his “special wink”. Thank you.
