Shannon Fraser
Shannon Elizabeth Fraser, 75, Toney River, passed away surrounded by her family on April 19, 2016 in the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou.
Born in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Francis “Rooster” MacDonald and Helen Dunlop.
Shannon had a love for music and dancing as she grew up with her father in the spotlight as he pursued his time in music. Upon meeting James at the age of 15, they both shared the same love for music and would always be found at social gatherings enjoying a dance together.
Shannon enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and had a love for baking, knitting and sewing. She would always be kept busy, whether it was volunteering her time or spending time with family and friends. She always had a great time with the Red Hatters, enjoying the camaraderie and laughter.
Shannon spent her years as a personal care worker where she worked at the Edward Mortimer Place and the Maritime Oddfellows Home. During that time she took a leave of absence to care for her mother-in-law at home for six years, then returned to work for a short period before retiring.
Shannon was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, James.
She is survived by her three children, Rick, Toney River; Frances (Robert Marshall), Pictou; Peggy Scanlan, Pictou; two sisters, Marilyn (Pat MacCormack), Pictou and Jean Thurman, Ontario; six grandchildren, Luke and Danielle Scanlan, Jocelyn and Matt Marshall, Stefanie and Jennifer Fraser, along with four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Maritime Oddfellows Home and Dr. Burrill for the excellent care Shannon and James both received, we are forever grateful.
Visitation will be 6 – 9 PM on Saturday, April 23rd in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Celebration of life will be held at 3 PM Sunday April 24th from St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Toney River with a reception following at the Toney River Community Hall. Burial will be in the Riverbank Cemetery.
