FRANKLIN, Nina Louise - We, as a family, are heartbroken to announce the peaceful passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Nina Louise Franklin (nee Allen) on May 4 , 2016 at the age of 93, at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS. She was met at heaven's gate by her parents Stayley and Viva Allen, her brother Murray, her sisters Bertie, Muriel and Marion and her in-laws Tom and Beatrice Franklin of Hill Grove (Digby). She is survived by Tom, her loving husband of almost 69 years, daughters Gail (Wally) Sherry, Diane (Lou) Mestekemper, 3 grandchildren Krista, Trevor and Adam, 7 great-grandchildren, a step family including 2 great-great-grandchildren, brothers Roy and Stayley, and sisters Reta, Amy and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Ann Wynn and Marge Minard, and brothers-in-law Jim, Carl and Harold Franklin. Mom was born in Chegoggin (Yarmouth) on April 11, 1923. Mom was an avid square dancer, a knitter, a baker, a card player, and enjoyed many years of camping and wintering in Florida. Mom was for the most part, a stay-at-home mother and to her, family always came first. Mom had a wonderful sense of humor and a very quick wit, with a tad bit of stubbornness thrown in. Funeral service was held at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 at 2pm on Saturday, May 7, 2016 with Rev Leon Langille officiating. People were asked to wear a touch of red as this was her favorite color. A reception followed immediately after the service. Cremation has taken place and a committal service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
