Rawding – Richard Earle, 1963-2016-Born in Nova Scotia, youngest of 13, son of Herbert and Edna (Thorpe). Richard (Dickie with affection) passed away April 17 in Australia with his life partner Jan at his side. A sister Gladys Martin and son John had been there for 2 weeks, he passed shortly after they left. The family moved to Ontario in 1958 and after leaving high school Richard set off with a back pack for Europe and the rest is history. He lived in Toronto for a few years where he had a pizza business, moved to Calgary, became a carpenter, built furniture until an injury forced him to change careers. He followed his passion for cooking and became a chef. He never forgot his family and made visits often especially to visit his mother, and sister Sandra Jane; the two were very close and affectionately known as ‘Dick & Jane’. He was an avid hockey fan, especially the Leafs. A great disappointment he was not able to come to Canada for one last game. He predicted the ‘Cup’ will be in Toronto in 5 years! He finally met the woman who would change his life, in Jan, and her family of 5, in Australia. Richard became the builder, chef, manager of a large vacation park, made friends and put down his roots. He and Jan came to Canada several years ago; Jan fell in love with Nova Scotia. They spent 3 months there, intending to purchase a place for future family visits. Unfortunately cancer took over their lives. They still managed trips to Europe and Canada until Richard no longer to travel. He will be extremely missed by loving sisters, brothers, nephews & nieces in Canada. Surviving, sisters Alva (Bartley) in Barrie, Gladys (Martin), Edmonton; Ed, Peterborough and Fred, Bradford. His second family Jan, her daughter Jessica and three adored grandchildren, her sons Jared, Dillon, Jeremy and Nicholas. Following a celebration of his life in his beautiful park, cremation taking place. Ashes will be returned for interment in his beloved Nova Scotia at a later date.
