It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Lendal MacRae, at the age of 74, on Saturday, May 7, at the Northside General Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Lendal, known as Farmer, grew up on Shawfield farm. Lendal was the only son of the late Alexander and Georgie (MacIntosh) MacRae.
He was employed at Marine Atlantic until his retirement. He was a great fan of horse racing and his card games.
Lendal is survived by his loving family; his wife, Mary; his three sons, Shane (Paula), Eldon, Billy (Tanya) all of North Sydney; his sisters-in-law, Nessie, North Sydney, and Doris, New York. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kyla, Kelli, Devan, Katrina, Amber, Andrew, Laura Lee, Bonnie Jean, and his nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved so dearly. Lendal will also be missed by longtime friend Melvin Jardine, who provided much love and support; all his horse racing buddies; and his card buddies, Eddie, Vicky, George and numerous others who joined them in their games.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the nursing staff on 4 West at the Northside General Hospital for their loving care and dedication while he was a patient, as well as the palliative-care doctors and nurses who are all excellent in their field.
In keeping with Lendal’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
