Edith Rowen

Date de décès : 30 avril 2016

Edith May age 100 passed away peacefully on April 30, 2016 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre with her family by her side. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016 from the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home with Shirley Wilson officiating. The organist was Arlene Olson and the life tribute was given by her great grandson Jordan Wall. The pallbearers were Sheldon Prang, Justin Prang, Adam Huxted, Danny McKenna, Jordan Wall and Jeff Giesbrecht. Edith was laid to rest in Memory Gardens Cemetery. She was born on July 21, 1915 in the homestead shack to Allan and Lillian Watt. Edith attended Cutbank School with her younger sisters, Lorna and Vina, driving them to school with a team of horses. She met Lloyd Rowan and they were married on October 23, 1935 and then moved to the farm which is now Highfield Dam. Their daughter Leona was born in 1936, and their son Allan Wayne in 1939, and their second daughter Faye was born in 1941. They were all born at the Highfield Dam farm. Their only son Allan Wayne (Sonny) drowned in April 1941. They then moved to the Fox District and then Swift Current in 1945 where Lloyd owned and operated a trucking and construction company, and Edith did the books. In 1956 they welcomed another daughter, Wendy to the family. In 1957 they built a new house in Swift Current and Edith worked for Christie Grant's. In 1964 they moved to Poway, California (after wintering there for many years), but due to the death of Edith's father in 1965, they returned to the Watt farm to care for Edith's mother. They continued to winter in the United States, they drove a trailer down and eventually purchased their own place in Cherokee Village, Apache Junction, Arizona, where they spent the winter months with Lloyd's sisters and their husbands. Even after she lost the love of her life on September 20, 1983 she continued to go to Arizona for a few years. She and Lloyd retired off the farm and returned to the house they built in Swift Current in 1980. She stayed in the house until 1990 when she moved to Golden West Manor. She was very busy while there, involving herself in cards, bingo, and was even President for a number of years. She enjoyed fancy work, tatting, crocheting, knitting, petty point and was very skilled at everything she did. She loved to travel, taking trips to BC to visit her sister Vina and her family, Ontario to visit her daughter Leona and her family, and to Michigan to visit Lloyd's family. She was willing to go anywhere as long as it was by automobile, because she hated to fly. In March 2013 she suffered a heart attack and had to move to PRCC. She was a lifetime member of the First United Church and Burnham W.I. Family meant the world to Edith. She loved all her family and always had a kind word for everyone. In later years, she was legally blind and couldn't hear but she never complained. Edith is lovingly remembered by her daughters Leona Mink, Faye (Joe) Loustel, and Wendy (Ken) Moorhead; grandchildren Penny Bailey (Murray), Carol (Darren) Misch, Brenda (Bud) Wall, Lori (Clayton) Stauber, Sheldon (Tracy) Prang, Krista (Danny) McKenna, Jennie (Adam) Huxted, and Justin Prang (Felicia); 20 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd; son Allan Wayne; grandson Terry Mink; granddaughter Trina Prang; great grandson Lyndon Stauber; son-in-law Bill Mink; parents Allan and Lillian Watt; and sisters Lorna Ward and Vina Hanson. Donations in Edith's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan 1738 Quebec Avenue, Unit 26 Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9.
