It is with great sadness that we, the family of Norris ‘Bud’ Dowe, announce his passing on May 25, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Norris was the son of the late Norris and Margaret (McIntyre) Dowe.
Norris worked in his early years as a coal miner at #20 Colliery and later as an electrician.
Norris was an avid gardener and grew many varieties of vegetables, strawberries and fruit trees. He also grew giant pumpkins, which he entered in the Millville Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off for many years. For numerous years he was a judge of vegetables and flowers at the Port Morien Fall Fair. He also enjoyed playing cards at the local card clubs and meeting new people. Norris was a longtime active member of St. John the Baptist Parish and later St. Anne Parish.
Norris is survived by sisters, Doris (late Wayne Farrell), California, Audrey, Anne (Ray) Lawrence of Glace Bay; brothers, Lonnie (Yvonne), Nyanza, Don (Diane), Cheticamp, Kevin (Gina), Chapleau, Ont.; sister-in-law, Betty Dowe, Glace Bay. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Norris was predeceased by his brother, Jack and brother-in-law, Wayne Farrell.
As per Bud’s wishes there will be no visitation. A funeral mass celebrating his life will take place at St. Anne Church, Monday, May 30th at 10 a.m. with Fr. Leo Boone officiating.
