It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, Anita Marie Gilmet, on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Laura Marie McInnis.
Anita was a former member of St. John’s Church. She enjoyed being with the love of her life, her partner, Victor, also spending time with her family and friends and going to Tim Hortons.
Anita enjoyed Victor's cooking and picking blueberries and cranberries with her granddaughter. Her cats, Sandy and Cindy, were also a great joy to her.
Surviving are her partner, Victor Gilmet of 59 years; children, Cathy (Jimmy) Nearing, Karen (George Pyke ) Gilmet, Laura (Wayne) MacGuigan, all of Glace Bay; sons, Allan (Crystal Anderson), Glace Bay, Victor, Ontario; sister, Mary (Tuck) MacInnis. She was also survived by 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Charles and Johnny.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Anita may be made to the Lung Association.
