With great sadness, we announce the death of Thomas Sullivan Smith, 67, of 22 RB Smith St., Sydney Mines at the Northside General Hospital on June 19, 2016. He was the son of Robert B. and Margaret Anne (MacKay) Smith of Sydney Mines.
Tommy was a graduate of Sydney Mines High and majored in Drama and Philosophy at UCCB, in Sydney. Old friends will remember his adept portrayal of The Cowardly Lion and The Ugly Step Mother in drama productions in years past. More recently, Tommy was an enthusiastic member of the Sydney Mines Story Telling Club. He worked for many years as a coal miner, proving himself a worthy successor to his dad and grandfathers legacies.
Tommy was predeceased by his parents; brothers, James and Robert; two sisters in infancy; sister, Katherine Herbert and brother-in-law, Bud Audoux. He is survived by brothers, John and Peter; sisters, Margaret Audoux, Lillian MacPhee (John), Janet Smith and sister-in-law, June Smith. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held at JM Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines on Saturday, July 30th, 2016 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service to celebrate Tommy’s life.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or charity of choice.
