Date de décès : 8 octobre 2016
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother Elizabeth “Betty” Tait, age 85, on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Cove Guest Home in Sydney.
Born October 13, 1930 in St. Jacques, Newfoundland, Betty was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Drakes) Drake.
Betty’s family moved back to Cape Breton in 1982 after leaving 32 years earlier for a life with her husband, Stuart, who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and their family. Betty was an active member of St. Joseph Parish in North Sydney, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and hospitality member. She was a devout member of the CWL, the Northside Garden Club, Northside Guest Home Auxiliary and the North Sydney Seniors and Pensioners Club. Betty also worked for a number of years at Zellers in North Sydney. When Betty was not spending time with her family, she loved sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting.
A special heartfelt thank you to Janie Merritt of North Sydney, Mom’s special friend throughout her entire life and who mom loved like a sister.
Betty is survived by her children, Georgie (LeRoy) Musgrave of North Sydney, Sandra (Hugh) Toner of Georges River and Rob (Judy) Tait of Ottawa, ON. Betty was the proud Nanny of Tanya, Crystal, Brandon, Lauren, Stuart and Dawson; great grandmother of Gracie, Gavin and Ella.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Stuart M. Tait in May 2016; her sister, Alice; her brothers, William “Bill” Drake, Patrick “Pat” Drake, Cornelius “Con” Drake and two brothers in infancy, Tom and George. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Cove Guest Home in Sydney for their loving care over the past couple of years. There will be no visitation by request. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
