Ralph Raymond Hershmiller, 91, of Swift Current, SK, passed away October 12, 2016 at The Meadows. The funeral service was held from the Church of the Open Bible Monday, October 17, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Rob Cochrane officiating. The pianist was Wendy Cochrane and the ushers were Robert Klassen and Stan Klassen. Tributes were given by Don, Kit and Laurel Beyer and Dennis Seibel and special music was played by Archie and the Boys. The interment service took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. Ralph is survived by his wife Dora, her children; Laurel and Don (Carol) and grandsons, Kit and Matt; his brothers and sisters, Shirley (Bill) Siever, Maryann (Dennis) Seibel, William "Dee" (Kay) Hershmiller, Alma Breathet, and Allan(Donna) Rosen, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents; William and Annie and his stepmother, Katie; his brother Brian and sisters, Joan and Edna. Ralph attended school at Edinburgh, SK. He worked as a farmer, bookkeeper, pipefitter, hardware clerk, carpenter, home care worker and a painter. He married Dora Beyer on November 12, 1976. Ralph played, coached and umped softball and baseball for more than 34 seasons. He enjoyed watching sports and doing woodworking. Ralph loved music and was gifted at playing a variety of instruments, including organ, piano, guitar and harmonica. He collected antiques, and valued time with family, especially his grandsons. In World War II he served as an army gunner from 1943 to 1946, when he was honourably discharged. The family is grateful to the staff of the Palliser Regional Care Centre and The Meadows for their exceptional kindness and care of Ralph over the past five years.
