It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Gladys White at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. Born in Florence, Gladys one of 17 children, she was the daughter of the late William and Agnes (O’Neil) Martin. She enjoyed fishing, hunting rabbits, playing spoons, singing to the residents of the Cove Guest Home. She was a prankster and loved pulling jokes on her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by residents and staff at the home. Gladys affectionately known as ‘Gramma Newf’ is survived by her daughter, Carol MacDonald; grandchildren, Scott (Pam), Clayton, David Lloyd (Lisa) MacDonald; great grandchildren, Shanice, Brady, Makayla, Jessie, Josie, Jeffory, Morgan, Brandon, Jacob and Kelsey; great-great grandchildren, Ezekiel, Max and Zina. She is also survived by her sisters, Annie and Agnes, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her two sons, Johnny Martin and Rene White; son-in-law, Nelson MacDonald; grandson, Darrell MacDonald. Visitation will be held Friday, November 11, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
Funeral service will take place 1 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
Interment to follow in St. James Cemetery, Big Bras d’Or.
