CATHERINE ISABEL PENNY

Lieu de naissance : POINT ACONI, Nouvelle Ecosse
Date de naissance : 31 août 1931

Date de décès : 11 novembre 2016

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our precious mother, Catherine Isabel Penny, 85, on Friday, November 11, 2016 at home. Born in Point Aconi on August 31, 1931 she was the daughter of the late John W. and Katherine (Degaust) Broderick. Mom was a member of the St. Joseph Church in Bras d’Or, a 63 year member of St. Joseph CWL and a member of the Bras d’Or Pensioners Club. Mom worked as a house cleaner in her early years and later at the St. Joseph Church Glebehouse until her retirement. Mom loved her family and many occasions of music and laughter. Mom’s door was always open, she was a great cook and baker; she always loved a good game of cards, house parties with family and friends and of course great music. She was a proud and devoted mother and grandmother and most recently “Granny” always looked forward to her visits and hugs from her great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Burgess; “her girls”, Gloria (Adrian) Blinkhorn and Georgina (Blair) Burton with whom she resided for many years; her pride and joy, grandchildren, Cathy Lynn (Dennis) Howley, Joey (Keshia) Blinkhorn and Tony Blinkhorn and great-grandchildren, Linden & Logan Howley and Morgan & Ethan Blinkhorn. Also surviving are her sister, Mary (Cyprian) LeBlanc; brother, Jim Broderick (Marilyn), whom she thought of as her own son and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step daughters, Brenda, Jean, Alice, Patricia; sister-in-law, Gertie Bonnar and brother-in-law, Stewart (Noreen) Penny, and her “special visitor”, Chloe. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, George Beaton in 1969; grandson, George Blinkhorn; sisters-in-law, Mary Lavery, Rose Gracie, Helen Kasian whom all held a special place in her heart and brother-in-law, Jack. Mom fought many battles in life but she never let them stop her from enjoying every moment with us. Mom taught us everything we know but she never taught us how to live without her. We will miss her dearly. There will be no visitation. A Celebration of her life will take place Monday, November 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating, reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Family flowers only please; in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Palliative Care or the St. Joseph’s Cemetery. At this time we would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Doug Kohlsmith & Karen for your many years of care and friendship; the Palliative Care team, VON and County Homemakers who helped make Mom’s stay at home comfortable and all of Mom’s family for your many visits.
