Rockwell, Rita Irene, age 78, of Newport Corner, Hants Co., passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on August 10, 1938, in Mount Uniacke, Hants Co., she was the daughter of the late George Rockwell and Viola (Parker) Fitzgerald. Rita worked for Nothing Fancy Store for 37 years as an office accountant and secretary. She enjoyed puzzles, pickling (which we are all going to miss), her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching cops, and her furry buddy Rex who kept her company. Rita is survived by her children, Susie (Bill) White; Danny (Angela) Northup; Sharon (Danny) Barkhouse; Heather Northup (Tom Atkinson); and Ricky (Susie) Northup; grandchildren, Nick, Hannah, Jodi , Darcy, Kendra , Kevin, and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Kaylyn, Brooklyn, Albie, Aiden, Charlie, and Jase; sisters, Fay Canning, Sherral (Bill) Bowman, and Debbie (Reid) Swinamer; brothers, Blaine (Diane), Glen (Linda), Bruce (Denise), and Jimmy (Susan) Fitzgerald; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Gerald Rockwell and Joe Fitzgerald. Special thanks to son, Ricky and daughter-in-law, Susie who took such special care of mom for 10 years and to Danny Barkhouse for the endless number of appointments he took her to in the last 4 years. Visitation was held from noon Sunday, January 22, 2017, until the funeral service at 2 pm, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0. Interment will be held at a late date. Donations in memory of Rita were requested be made to a charity of one’s choice.
