Gladys (Burte) Warren, age 85, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital (Palliative Care Unit), Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William Charles ‘Will’ and Rosella ‘Rose’ (Whitting) Burte. Gladys was a former member of Epworth United Church and later on Newsom United Church, Glace Bay. In her younger days she was employed as a cleaner with local businesses and residential homes. Gladys will be remembered for her quick, comical and dry wit. She is survived by four children, Robert Murray (‘Dutty’), Charles Murray (Patsy), Billy Warren (Sue), Dianne Warren (Chris) and one sister, Louise MacMullin. Gladys is survived by five grandchildren, Tammy, Little Charlie, Sandra, Victoria, Julia; three great grandchildren, Ainsley, Brennan, Tyler and one great great-grandchild, Bentley. Gladys was predeceased by her first husband, George Murray and her second husband, Willard Warren as well as her son, Kenneth Murray and her brother, Thomas Burte. As per her wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. Graveside prayers will be held in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Care or a charity of one’s choice.
