BENJAMIN (BEN) BERNICK
Remembering Ben
Sadly, native son, Benjamin (Ben) Bernick passed away in mid-November 2016, in Ottawa, where he lived with his beloved wife Bila and their son Jordan, who were his greatest loves. Ben grew up in Sydney where he went to Colby School, Woodill Jr. High, and Sydney Academy. He and Bila married in Sydney. After Jordan was born they moved to Israel, where they lived for 20 years. In Israel Ben work for the US Embassy where he coached and played for the very successful Scorpions softball team. Ben and Bila returned to Canada, finally settling in Ottawa where they lived for the past 15 years. Just last summer Ben and Bila returned to Cape Breton to spend time with friends and relatives. Even though Ben had been away from home for approximately 35 years, his deep love for the island never diminished. While in Cape Breton Ben and Bila spent time in Dundee, Sydney, Ingonish, Margaree Harbour and yes, they even drove the Cabot Trail. Those who knew Ben growing up, in Sydney, would remember him for his "take no prisoners" and ferocious competitive spirit in whatever sport he did especially tennis and basketball and his adventurous approach to life. To his closest friends Ben will be remembered always for being there when it really mattered and his quick wit. We will truly miss Ben and thank him for being such an important part of our lives growing up in Cape Breton and beyond.
Ben, you will be with us always.
