Annie Nannette   Oleson

Born and raised in Nyanza / Wagmatcook Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on October 20th, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Julia (Paul) Francis, both of Nyanza. She retired to her birth place of Wagmatcook in 1997. Annie was also a member of the Peace Corps, she supported many causes including the Walk for Hunger and the Walked against domestic Violence and volunteered her time to many good just and kind hearted causes. She was a giver to many charities and an advocate of human rights. She had a very special love for children who returned this love many years after they had grown up. She had a special heart and love for people and never turned anyone (in need) away. Annie (Nannette) Oleson walked the walk of goodness, kindness and love throughout her entire life. To the world you are a mother but to the family you are the world. She is survived by her children, Joanne Dunn, John Oleson, Jr., William (Tommy) Oleson, Julia Duling, Janie Oleson and Theresa Podolske, all of Boston, MA., Joseph Oleson and William (Tommy) Oleson, residing in Wagmatcook. She is also survived by brothers, Francis Joe Francis, Edward Francis of Wagmatcook First Nation Indian Reserve and Annie Joe of Newburyport, MA. and by 46 grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughters, Wanda and Jeanne Oleson; sisters, Katy Googoo, Theresa Bernard and Annie Isabell Paul; brother, Stephen Francis. Children being an extremely important part of her life, after raising 9 children of her own, she went to college in Boston and received her teacher certification going on to become head teacher and director of daycare at the Boston Indian Council.
Without you mom there would be no us. We love you and miss you Mama and we will all be together someday, until then we will miss you and we love you and will keep you in our hearts and prayers until that day. We love you with all our heart Mama, you are forever our hero. Visitation at 12 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, February 15th, 2017 at St. Michael Church, Baddeck, NS, funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. with Fr. Paul Abbas officiating. After the funeral, cremation will take place with burial at a later date. Funeral under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck, NS.
