JOAN RICHARDS

JOAN RICHARDS

Joan Richards
July 22, 1947 – February 14, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan Richards shares the news of her peaceful passing at the Legrow Health Centre on February 14 at the age of 69. Born and raised in Grand Bay, Joan was the daughter of the late Ernest and Annie Mae Kettle. She was predeceased by mother and father-in-law, Bertha and Harold Richards; her brothers; Wesley, Max and Isaac Kettle and Nelson Myles (known to Joan as Big Nels); her sisters, Ruth Lomond, Phyllis Carpenter, Olive Kettle, Blanche Short, Mary Hardy, Mildred Kettle, and Greta Bishop; brother in laws, Albert Kettle and Fred Lomond. She leaves to mourn her loving husband, Roy, of 48 wonderful years. Joan was a proud mother of Sonya (John) Osmond of Middle Sackville, N.S. and Stephanie (Jamie) Senior of Port aux Basques, N.L. She will be fondly remembered and loved by her grandchildren: Liam Senior and Ross and Karla Osmond who referred to her as Gramm. The love of family extends to her sisters: Sandra Kettle, Edith (Ron) March, Eileen (Ed) Hill, Verena Kettle, Cedella Fraser, and her brother Nelson Kettle, her sister-in-law Maxine (Reg) Frampton, brother in laws, Robert (Golda) Richards, Wayne(Yvonne) Richards and Ralph Hopkins. In addition to her large family, her life would not have been complete without her nieces, nephews and large circle of friends. Her love for sewing can be found in the many quilts and crafts she made over the years. She was lucky enough to travel to many destinations in her life. She spent summers at her cottage in MacDougalls and numerous winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C. soaking up the sunshine. Joan was happiest spending time with friends and family and always found the good in everyone. She will be sadly missed by many. In keeping with Joans' wishes, cremation has taken place. The family received friends at East Haven Funeral Home on Friday February 17, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service took place on Saturday February 18, 2 pm at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Grand Bay, officiated by Rev. Harold Harvey. Also sharing in the service were Rev. Clayton Billard and Rev. Kathleen Anderson. Internment took place at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Trans Canada Highway, Port aux Basques. Following the graveside service, the family joined friends for a time of reflection, friendship and fellowship in honour of a wonderful woman who loved the company of her family and friends. This took place at St. Paul's Anglican Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan can be made to the Wesley United Church 134 Main Street P.O. Box 58, Channel Port aux Basques, NL, A0M 1C0. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc, 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, 695-2300. www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
