Walter Lake

PORT GREVILLE – Walter H. Lake, age 76, of Port Greville. With treasured memories of a life well lived, and hearts full of sadness, we announce that Walter passed away peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro surrounded by family.
Born in Fox River, he was a son of the late Herbert and Laura (Dowe) Lake.
Walter will be forever remembered as a gentle and compassionate soul, with a terrific sense of humor and amazing wit.
Walter was a gardener, cook, poet, artist, hunter and a passionate fisherman. He was always an active member of his community. His most beloved place in the world was his camp in the ‘Burnt Woods’ where he spent so many hours looking out over the lake. He also loved to share his so many talents with everyone.
He is survived by his wife, the former Cindy McCully; a son, Troy (Cheryl), Shubenacadie; a grandson, Caleb; sisters, Madeline Varner, Annabelle Hamilton, Valerie Smith (Frank), all of Diligent River; Dorothy Ross (Maxwell), Fraserville; Betty Anne DeWitt (Allen), Parrsboro; brothers, Anthony (Helena), Parrsboro; Philip (Ruby), Springhill; Alan, New Canaan; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lois in infancy. He loved his cat, Mia and his special friends, Paige, Meana and Dante.
Funeral service took place on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Fox River, Rev. Dr. Brian Spence officiating. Reception followed at the F.P.W. Community Centre, Port Greville. Burial in the church cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Age of Sail Heritage Centre, Port Greville. Arrangements entrusted to Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Online condolences at www.smithsfuneralhome.com .
