Pauline Swaine
Swaine, Pauline Francis-Shelburne; It is with heavy hearts, the family of Pauline Swaine, wish to announce her peaceful passing at home on March 2, 2017 at the age of 92. Born in Shelburne, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Ella Mae (Thompson) Buchanan. While in school she played basketball and softball, and she loved to dance. She had special times with her sister Rhoda, especially when dish time came, they would turn the radio up and dance around the kitchen instead of doing dishes. After high school Pauline met the love of her life, Lewis Swaine, at a dance at the Royal Canadian Legion. They were married for 57 years before Lew passed away. During their marriage, Pauline was an avid bowler for the Eggheads. She worked at Cox’s for many years, and then at Shelco until they closed. Pauline was also a member of Naomi Lodge, IOOF, for 35 years. One of Pauline and Lew’s favourite things to do was spend time at the cottage on Welshtown Lake. During hunting season, Pauline would go up to the cottage and cook hearty meals for the men when they returned from hunting. She also enjoyed planting flowers and landscaping around the cottage. Pauline and Lew spent many hours sitting on the deck listening to the loons and enjoying the peacefulness the lake brought to them. She was very passionate about her flower gardens and couldn’t wait until the seed catalogues came out and the garden centres opened so she could see what was new. Pauline’s life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very passionate and generous person. All the kids in the neighbor hood came to her whenever they needed anything, whether it be from her garden or from her candy stash, and everyone called her “aunt Paul”. Pauline is survived by daughters, Paulette Williams, Wolfville; April (Jackie) Smith, Middle Ohio; sons, Harold (Shelburne); Arthur (Susan) Middle Ohio; and Ricky, Shelburne; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters, Lorna Bower and Betty Williams. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by sisters, Grace, Lillian, Joyce, Rhoda and Shirley, and brothers, Wallace, Gerald, Warren, Chester and William. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium Ltd. Visitation was Sunday, March 5 from 7-9 p.m. in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne where the memorial service will take place on Monday at 2p.m. with Pastor Debi Hill officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the V.O.N.
