MWO (Ret.) Jackie Deveau born in Halifax, NS on July 4, 1962, passed away at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, NS on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the age of 54. Raised in Chéticamp, NS by his adoring late grandparents, Charlie (Eusebe) and Annie Rose Deveau; Jackie was a loving husband to, Lorna (Savoy) Deveau; proud Dad to sons, Kyle MacWilliam Deveau, Victoria, BC and Ryan Charles Deveau, Edmonton, AB who followed in their father’s footsteps by joining the Canadian Armed Forces. A devoted brother to, Ida LeLiévre, Chéticamp, NS and Jacqueline Bell, Burlington, ON; son to birth mother, Sophie Taylor and beloved nephew, uncle, and cousin to many. A loyal friend to everyone – he was deeply loved by all who knew him. Jackie truly loved life and lived it to the absolute fullest. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, selfless heart and incredible sense of humour. He enjoyed nature and never feared new adventures that life would offer. His passion for playing hockey and golf was more than apparent to anyone who played with him or competed against him. After serving his country coast-to-coast, up north and overseas in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Jackie retired from a distinguished 34+ year career returning back home to Chéticamp to be with family and friends. Volunteering was a huge part of his life due to his giving nature. Many charities benefited from his hard work and dedication to the cause. His work with the 2483 PPCLI Cadet Corps in Victoria resulted in him receiving a Volunteer Service Medal for five Years of exemplary service and dedication. He was very honoured to be a part of the ‘Soldier On’ program and the good work they do for injured soldiers - this was very dear to his heart. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 17 at the Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 18 at 2 p.m., Église St-Pierre in Chéticamp. An internment at the St-Pierre Cemetery will follow ending with a reception and Celebration of Life in the Chéticamp Seniors’ Hall.
