Shirley Marie MacMullin
Shirley Marie MacMullin, age 83, a former resident of Emery Street, Glace Bay passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Catherine (MacDonald) MacPhee. Shirley was employed at Ellie Marshalls Men’s Wear Store, Glace Bay for several years. She enjoyed playing cards on Sunday afternoon’s with her family. Shirley could always light up a room with her beautiful, warm smile.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine (Michael) Maroun; two sons, Walter (Mary) and Michael (Nadine) MacMullin; one granddaughter, Cheryl Mercer (Andrew); four grandsons, Shaun Maroun, Michael J. MacMullin (Johanna), Stephen & Colin MacMullin; great granddaughters, Lila and Paige Mercer; brother, Kelly MacPhee; four sisters, Cleo Tobin, Joan Parsons (Eric), Bernice Nickituk and Maureen Robertson. Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Michael MacMullin; granddaughter, Andrea MacMullin; brothers, Walter and Garfield “Gar” MacPhee and her sister, Florence Farrell. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, March 19, 2017 from 7 – 9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Leo Boone is Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church foyer. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay. The family expresses a special thank you to Alderwood Rest Home, Fr. Paul Abbass and Deacon Walter Ivany for the compassion and care shown to our mother.
