LAKE - Thelma Irene (Laffin), of Summerville, Hants County, passed away March 6, 2017 at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born September 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lucy (McCulloch) Laffin, Moose Brook. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband Bradley Ernest Lake; son-in-law Laurie Patterson; brothers Marsten (Gwen) Laffin, Mac (Rita) Laffin and Jehu Laffin; sister Mary (Ron) Taylor; brothers-in-law Alworth Hines, Walt (Martha) Lake and Archie (Doris) Lake; sisters-in-law Anita (Doug) Card and Marjorie Lake. Thelma is survived by her daughters, Judy Patterson and Marlene Hill; son-in-law Owen Hill; sister Clara Hines; brother Eric (Betty) Laffin; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Thelma attended Normal College, Truro and furthered her education attending summer school in Halifax. She taught school throughout Hants County, ending her long career at the Dr. Arthur Hines School, Summerville. Thelma was a member of the Leila Rebekah Lodge, No. 59 and a member of the Kempt United Baptist Church. A hard worker, within the lodge, the church and the school; and in the garden, the hayfield and putting in the winter’s wood. Always supportive of her family, a great Mum, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother - she was loved! Cremation, and interment at Loyal Hill Cemetery has taken place. Pastor Betty Parker officiated. Donations in memory of Thelma may be made to the Loyal Hill Cemetery or the Kempt United Baptist Church.
