CHAMBERS, Mary Ruth. Age 89, of Newport Station. Mary “Ruth” (Porter) Chambers, born April 4, 1928, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on April 4, 2017 after a short and sudden illness. Her being able to stay at home was made possible only by the unwavering care provided by her loving daughter, Chris, for which the rest of the family is deeply grateful. Ruth enjoyed music and always looked forward to going to jam sessions where she played guitar and sang. She was full of spirit and was always up for adventure, whether it was camping, going on road trips and even made it to the Grand Old Opry: a dream come true. She loved her family and always enjoyed their visits, especially holidays. She could make a mean apple pie and there would often be an argument over who was going to have the last slice. Ruth is survived by daughter, Chris (Jerry) Hunter; sons, Bill (Margaret), BC; Fred (Kaye), Newport Station; Wayne, Newport Station; grandchildren, David (Tara) Whitehead, Devin (Jodie) Whitehead, Chad (Sarah) Whitehead, Melissa and Stephen Chambers, Ashley (Troy) Carson and Natasha (Greg) Chambers; great-grandchildren, David, Seth, Morgan and Reagan Whitehead, Brandon, Brayden, Blake and Brianna Carson and Adrianna Burgess; sister, Olive (Bill) Armstrong and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by parents, John and Sadie (Macumber) Porter; husband, Harley; sisters, Myrtle Wheeler, Jean Keeley, Nellie Robertson; brothers, Frank, Alfie, Arthur, Johnnie and twin brother, Freddy. Special thanks to palliative care doctors, nurse Amber Phillips, Home Care and VON for the excellent care and compassion they provided for mom and our entire family during her illness. Ruth will always be loved and remembered. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS BON 2TO (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday, April 7. A funeral service followed at 2 p.m. in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel. Interment took place in Ste. Croix Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ruth may be made to Hants Community Hospital Palliative Care or VON.
