Anna passed away peacefully on May 9, 2017 at Victoria Haven in Glace Bay at the age of 92. Born in Broughton, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Dan W. MacDonald and Margaret (Fiander) MacDonald, and is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Anna served in WWII in the RCAF in the Battle of the Atlantic, which is where she met the love of her life, Lloyd. They were married for 70 years until his passing in 2015. In her early years Anna worked alongside her mother as a seamstress and later worked as a Ward Clerk at the Glace Bay General Hospital. Her favorite place to be was with Lloyd in their bungalow out on the Mira, where she enjoyed waterskiing and picking berries. Anna will be forever remembered for her fun loving personality and kind heart.
Surviving are sons, Allan (Marlayne), St. Thomas, Ont., David (Leslie MacDonald) Glace Bay; and daughter, Joanne (Jay Bugden), Fall River, N.S. Also surviving are grandchildren, Julie, Jennifer, Kim, Amanda and Amy; along with great-grandchildren, Adrian, Alexandra, Abigail, and Riley. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Lloyd and sisters, Katherine, Annice, Mary, Dorothy and Willa.
Heartfelt thanks to her niece, Annice Summerell who provided special care and attention to Anna, as well as the staff of Victoria Haven, where she spent the last 14 years of her life.
As per Anna’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 9:30 – 11 a.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment to follow in Black Brook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna’s memory may be made to the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church building fund.
