Son of Beatrice and Maxwell Pennell, was born on April 12th 1932 in St. John's, Newfoundland, passed peacefully away on April 5th, 2008 knowing he would be joining his son Shawn Pennell who passed in 1984. Bernard was of Anglican faith and an active member of the Shriner's as well as the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #56. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, playing cards, throwing darts, watching the NY Yankees, KC Chiefs and KU Jayhawks; but most importantly making friends and family smile. Bernard was an award winning chef in Kansas City, MO for over 40 years where he raised his seven children. He returned to St. John's 7 years ago to retire; as he was a true Newfoundlander. Bernard's legacy lies in his 7 children and 9 grandchildren whom he loved dearly. His children are Bernard Pennell of Belton, MO, Leslie Simpson and husband Mike of Overland Park, KS, Gary Pennell and wife Kaylinn of Aurora, MO, Stephanie Spencer and husband David of Overland Park, KS, Shawn Pennell (deceased), Colleen Laney of Marionville, MO and Barry Pennell of Denver, CO. He cherished his grandchildren Christoper, Lauren, Beric, Brandon, Emily, Sarah, Megan, Katie and Sean with all his heart. Bernard was also a loving brother to Maxine Jerrett of St. John's, Harold LaFosse (deceased), David Pennell and wife Connie of Raymore, MO, Dianne Benmore of Mount Pearl, Rosalind Mole and husband Rod of Mount Pearl. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and close friend Daphne LaFosse. Cremation and a private service has taken place. A private family service will be held in Kansas City at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in the behalf of Bernard to the Shriner's Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #56.
