James Pearson Rollefson
September 22, 1919 – February 9, 2009
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, James Pearson Rollefson on Monday, February 9, 2009 after a short illness with family by his side. Jim was born in Outlook, Saskatchewan. He moved to Moose Jaw with his family in 1923 and there he remained as a resident except for his period of active duty during the Second World War. Jim, or Rolly as he was known, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was posted overseas as a navigator in 1942. While serving in England he met the love of his life – Barbara Jones. They were married on April 8, 1944 in London. He ended up having not only a wonderful wife but he became a loving member of both the Jones family in England and the Rollefson-Carefoot family in Moose Jaw. Jim worked as a printer at the Times Herald for 48 years and continued his relationship with this organization as a columnist of The Golden Years from 1988-1991. He really lived out the Golden Years theme as he and Barbara enjoyed many fantastic trips throughout Europe and North America. Jim loved his curling and golf, and especially enjoyed the fellowship of his friends. He was a loving, compassionate and kind person who would always be there to lend a helping hand. He was entirely dedicated to his family and his faith. His last few days were spent surrounded by his adoring family in a celebration of his life through fond reminisces, readings of scripture and musical concerts. We will treasure this time with you forever, Dad, and we know you are in a better place now. Jim is survived by his loving wife of almost 65 years, Barbara, son Dr. James Pearson Rollefson - Ottawa and daughter Beverley (Leonard) Curran - Moose Jaw and their children, Allison (Jae-Wan) Curran – Minneapolis, Nathan - Regina Chip and Dale Homes and Meghan (Trevor) Curran - Edmonton. He also leaves to mourn his sister, Louise Williams - Edmonton, brother-in-law, Reg (Celia) Jones, sisters-in-law Edna Jones and Tricia Jones and brother-in-law David (Barbie) Jones, all of England, and many wonderful nieces, nephews and their families. Friends and family are warmly invited to participate in the celebration of Jim’s life, Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 1:00 pm in St. Andrew's United Church. Earla McKinnell will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted by Roscoe Steele. Interment is to follow in the Veterans’ Section of Rosedale Cemetery after a social gathering at the church. The family requests no flowers but donations could be forwarded, if you so desire, to Chip and Dale Homes in Regina, or St. Andrew's United Church. In living memory of Jim, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register book at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
