Vera Bernice Henderson, 87, of Camden, passed away at Val’s Rest Home, Hilden, on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008. Born in Truro she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Lucy (Sutherland) Bailey. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Vera cooked with her mother at an early age at logging camps. She also worked at the Eastern Hat and Cap Factory, Truro. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, reading, dancing, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Harmony Camden United Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband Parker of 59 years; son, Matthew; daughter, Linda; sisters, Della (Bill) Hillman, Jean (Lewis) Delaney, Verna; brothers, Claude, Ellis (Dorothy), Merlin; step-father, Daniel MacKay. She is survived by son, John (Janet), Wentzell’s Lake; daughter, Heather (David) Tooker, Camden; grandchildren, Aaron (Susan), Brad Tooker, Adrian Henderson; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Bridgit and Shelby Tooker; sister-in-law, Ruby Jennings, London, Ont.; brothers-in-law, Ralph Henderson, Camden, Claude Lynds, Pictou Road, Truro; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service is 2 p.m. today in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, Rev. Sue King-Darby officiating, with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Spring interment will be held in the Camden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harmony Camden United Church, the Camden Cemetery or to a charity of your choice.
