Anna Mae Karampelas, Shubenacadie Anna Mae Karampelas, 68. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother on Jan. 28, 2008. Born in Keswick Valley, N.B. in 1939, she was the daughter of the late Orran and Leota (Sharpe) Howland, and was predeceased by her partner Lionel Comeau. She is survived by her loving daughters Helen Marshall (John R.) Truro; Maria Karampelas, Port Hope, Ont.; son, Steve Lightbown (Shannon), Calgary, Alta.; brother, Nelson Howland (Mary), Edson, Alta.; her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily, Trevor and Brett; nieces, Laura, Theresa and Sharon. Anna was a fiercely independent woman who loved life. She adored her family, her community, nature, and her cats. Regardless of where she settled, her generous spirit and graciousness touched all who knew her. When life posed challenges for her, she met them with determination and a smile. She was able to see the positives in any situation and was truly sincere when giving encouragement and advice to those in need. Her warm and loving nature will be missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Anna will be held Thursday 7 to 9 p.m., with prayer service at 8 p.m.; funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m., all in St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church, Shubenacadie, Father Andrew Rembarczyk officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
