Bruce LeRoy Thompson, 74, of Truro, passed away suddenly Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at home. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Bruce and Anna Bell (Roode) Thompson. Bruce was a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He later drove truck for Eastern Transport until his retirement. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro and was a member of the Truro Dart League. He enjoyed his many visits to the Truro Height’s Irving for coffee and to spend time and chat with the waitresses and truck drivers. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Betty Lou Carmichael; sons Leroy “Jigger”, Green Oaks; Gordon (Barb), Debert; daughters Stella Thompson (James), North River; Sandra Fleming, Halifax; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by a brother Cyril. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro with Derek Elsworth officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Bible Hill Cemetery, Bible Hill. Donations in Bruce’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro Building Fund.
