Cleveland Lindsay “Cleve” Stoddard, 82, Truro, went home to be with his Lord on Monday evening, Sept. 1, 2008, in Colchester Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born Jan. 17, 1926 in Charlesville, Shelburne County, he was a son of the late Everett and Margaret (Allen) Stoddard. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Cleve was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served his Lord faithfully in many capacities, including deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and member of the Immanuel quartet and church choir. He was recently recognized with a special tribute in his honour for being a choir member for 50 years. He was also a member of the Colchester Cardiac Group and achieved his 25-year certificate for participating in the Terry Fox Run. A devoted and loving family man whose hugs were unforgettable, Cleve took great pride in his grandchildren, their families and their achievements. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, working in his garden and walking the trails at Victoria Park. He worked with CNR (bridge and building department) for 20 years and also with the department of highways (sign shop) until his retirement. Many will also remember Cleve as being their “Fuller Brush Man.” Cleve is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ella Beatrice (Murrant); daughter, Brenda (Joe) Maloney, Cole Harbour; grandchildren, Heather (Geoff) White, Cole Harbour; Paul (Ashley) Anderson, Musquodoboit Harbour; great granddaughter, Avery Ann Anderson; great grandson expected in November; two step grandchildren, Joey and Melissa Maloney; his “Cape Breton Family”; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Blair Anderson in infancy; brothers, Winfred, Maurice, Brad, Wilbur, one in infancy. Special thanks are extended to the wonderful staff at Colchester Regional Hospital, Floor 3 North, especially Alicia, for the care and compassion shown to our family.
