Colin Augustine Chisholm, 86, of Tower Road, Halifax, and formerly of 66 Braemore Ave., Antigonish, passed away on Jan. 8, 2007, at the Halifax Infirmary following a brief illness. Born in Heatherton, Antigonish County, on Oct. 31, 1920, he was the son of the late John A. and Mary Ann Chisholm. A veteran of the Second World War II, he served as a cipher clerk with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in Canada and Newfoundland, and with the Canadian Army's Pacific Force in the U.S.A. Following the war, he attended St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, and graduated in 1949 (B.A.), 1950 (Diploma in Education), and 1958 (M.A.). He taught with the Antigonish school system for 34 years, retiring in 1984. An active member of the Antigonish community, he was a past president and life member of Arras Branch 59, Royal Canadian Legion, Antigonish, a member of the board of directors of Bergengren Credit Union, Antigonish, a past president of the board of directors of Braemore Co-op, a past president of the Antigonish Town and County Home Care, a volunteer with Lifeline, and a member of the building committee for St. Martha's Hospital. He was member of St. Ninian's Parish in Antigonish for 46 years, and of late was a member of Canadian Martyrs Parish, Halifax. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary (MacDonald), his five children: Carmel (Tom Chisholm), Truro; Melvin, Halifax; Deborah Beban, Victoria, B.C.; Faye Chisholm, Vancouver, B.C.; and Amy (Sandy Melitides), Halifax; and his six grandchildren: Colene and Kerry Chisholm, Colin and Eric Beban, and George and Demetri Melitides. Also surviving are his two sisters, Mary B. (Cameron) Gilbert, Quincy, Mass, and Theresa MacDonald, Heatherton, and his three brothers, Eugene, Antigonish, Lauchie, Heatherton, and Pat, Toronto. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Bernadine MacDonald, Heatherton, Betty Chisholm, Antigonish, Sarah MacFarlane, Stellarton and Helen (in infancy), two brothers, Donald and Ernie, both of Heatherton, and his son-in-law Don Beban. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Ninian's Cathedral, Antigonish, Rev. Ray Huntley presiding.
